While today is the unfortunate anniversary of when Stevie Ray Vaughn died, today also has a positive side to it, believe it or not. On this day in 1908, a young man named Lyndon Baines Johnson was born into this world by Samuel Ealy Johnson and Rebekah Baines in Stonewall, Texas (which is essentially Johnson City, Texas today). Lyndon Johnson would go from being a school teacher to Mexican-American children in Cotulla, Texas, to becoming Senator Lyndon B. Johnson from Texas, to later becoming Vice President then President Lyndon Baines Johnson. While in office, LBJ passed the Civil Rights Bill of 1964, established Medicare and Medicaid, and helped clean up poverty in the United States. Unfortunately, the Vietnam War killed his presidency and forced him to not run for reelection in 1968, with many seeing Vietnam as President Johnsons legacy. With that aside, LBJ is one of most influential and admired presidents today, with many looking up to the man as a hero.
