Why I Moved To Qatar - Yakubu -Ready To Prove Self In Fresh Challenge Former Super Eagles striker Yakubu Aiyegbeni has disclosed that he accepted to switch his career spotlight to Al Rayyan of Qat5ar in order to prove that he can withstand pressure from a different challenge facing him as a professional footballer. Speaking in the wake of his shock exit from Guangzhou R&F of China, as he starts a year-and-half deal at Al Rayyan for an undisclosed fee, the 31-year-old Yak Attack said he loves the Qatari club’s burning ambition and wants to be part of their quest for glory. Yakubu, who scored 17 goals in his final season in the English Premier League with Blackburn Rovers, is the second Nigerian after Kalu Uche [who joined El Jaish] from the 2010 World Cup squad to move to Qatar in recent months. Yak, who has also played for Okomu Oil of Benin City, Julius Berger of Lagos, Maccabi Haifa of Israel and the English lot of Portsmouth, Middlesbrough, Everton, Leicester City and Blackburn, joined Guangzhou R&F in June 2012. He went on to score 25 goals in 45 appearances for the Chinese Super League side, but says he is not giving up goals scoring just yet, as he wants to make the best of the latest challenge in proving his mettle while playing on a mostly unpopular terrain. Yakubu told BBC Sport: Al Rayyan came forward seriously for me, showing strong ambition and I liked their project. It will be exciting to prove myself at this level, I know having played in Europe and China it is another challenge to take this step. I want to prove that I am worth all the effort that the club went through over the last couple of weeks. I like the challenge that has been put in front of me and hopefully I can make significant contributions that will drive this club forward.
