Why am I seeing more and more ACDs exhibited with open, fluffed up - TopicsExpress

Why am I seeing more and more ACDs exhibited with open, fluffed up coats?...The ACD has a close-lying, flat, weather resistant coat. The only place where the coat may appear to stand off slightly is the ruff on the neck, breeches on the hind legs and the tail where the coat is slightly longer. The standard it pretty clear when it comes to this, and yet I am seeing dogs shown with a coat that has been deliberatley blow-dried or brushed open...I have even seen some exhibitors brushing the coat backwards (againt the lay) with a slicker brush!!! Even the dogs legs prepared in this manner. Makes me wonder why they would groom in contradiction to a very clear standard? Is it an attempt to make the dog appear to have more bone and substance? Such incorrect presentation is very obvious and does not fool a knowledgable judge or even an inexperienced judge who can read a very clear standard. Not correct, not appropriate for our breed, and a concerning trend. FROM THE STANDARD - The coat is SMOOTH, a double coat with a short dense undercoat. The outer-coat is CLOSE, each hair straight, hard, and lying FLAT, so that it is rain-resisting.
