"Why do you recommend deloads? Why not just take a week off?" I - TopicsExpress

"Why do you recommend deloads? Why not just take a week off?" I recommend deloads over complete time off for 3 main reasons. 1) Whilst it is unlikely in such a short period of time, you can run the risk of "detraining" or going backwards. Not stimulating the muscles to any degree could hinder your progress. 2) Similarly to above you could also run the risk of losing strength and having to regain that on your return, delaying progress. If you set up a deload with the same loads but reduced volume then you will maintain strength whilst still allowing your body to recover. 3) The third reason comes down to nutrient partitioning. As science has shown, resistance training greatly improves factors such as insulin sensitivy and nutrient uptake to the muscles. Think of it as "telling your food where to go". It would be more beneficial to be doing something in the gym (even if volume/intensity is lower) and stimulating your muscles to some degree than sitting around doing nothing. I hope this helps :)
