Witches of the Vampir Metrou: In Norse mythology, Var is the Goddess associated with hearing and ensuring oaths. She is the covenant Goddess of Scandinavia. Her name means vow or pledge. It is Var who rules all oaths and contracts and pays special attention to those that are between men and women. Hence, She is the Goddess of betrothal. She listens to the oaths and solemn engagements which lovers make to each other. She is the one who hears the oaths and solemn engagements which lovers make to each other. She is wise but severe, and takes vengeance on those who break their vows. She guides the integrity of the spirit. Her power lies in the words we use to make our vows or articulate our intentions. Through Var, the word is the will, and the energy of the spoken word is what gives Her power. Her symbols are the oath ring and the hearth fire. Oaths were traditionally pledged at Yule. An oath made in the Twelve Holy Nights was deemed to be at least twelve times more binding than an oath made at any other time. Over time this evolved into our modern day New Year’s resolutions that are usually broken or forgotten by the end of January. But it is the sacred oaths that we keep that have the power to transform our lives.
