Woableze Formal education alone didn’t work for us, so we’re trying to reconnect to our sacred language, and this is why I put this book together. I am one of the very few who knows this sacred language. These words of wisdom will hopefully inspire our youth to speak Lakota and live according to Lakota values. No other source like this exists, and it is too bad something like this was not produced sooner. It took me a long time to realize why the modern day Lakota college professors are not teaching Lakota jargon. They simply don’t want us older carriers of the Lakota wisdom jargon to usurp what authority they claim for themselves. You don’t have to be an expert in Lakota studies to understand this. No words of wisdom books have been published by either of our two great colleges, Oglala Lakota College or Sinte Gleska University. I honestly believe that the main reason is because these educated Lakota never took the time to learn from the old ones. Now the old ones are nearly all gone and our youth--the new agers--have virtually no elders from whom to learn. A’sa Kuwapi Full blooded, Oglala Sioux Hokahey.
