Wolfville Farmers’ Market To Launch the Good Food Hub Kitchen! The Wolfville Farmers’ Market is excited to launch its first season of programming for its newly completed Good Food Hub Kitchen, a community commercial kitchen which will soon be a hub of food programming and small business incubation in The Valley. This first series of Fall Cooking Workshops and Locavore Tasting Tours are being delivered in support of the newly launched Nova Scotia 50% Local Club and will include workshops for people with food intolerances, students and those looking to integrate a local seasonal diet. The Wolfville Farmers’ Market designed and installed The Good Food Hub Kitchen to both provide a certified production facility for growing agri-food businesses and a community kitchen space for high quality food programming and community gatherings. The commercially inspected kitchen will be available for vendors of the Wolfville Farmers’ Market and other small food businesses to rent, allowing them the opportunity to grow their businesses without the expense of their own kitchen. The kitchen boasts a brand new 6 burner Garland range, commercial freezer and fridge, with ample stainless steel workspace. With a vision to contribute to the health of its community, the Wolfville Farmers’ Market will be working with a Community Advisory Committee. The committee will be co-chaired by Barb Anderson (Director, Acadia School of Nutrition and Dietetics) and Cari Patterson (Partner, Horizons Community Development Associates), and will explore ways for the Good Food Hub Kitchen to partner with those in the community development, health and food security sectors. “I am sincerely excited by the potential this kitchen has to offer,” says Wolfville Farmers’ Market Manager, Kelly Marie Redcliffe. “I see it as a social economic engine where farmers and entrepreneurs can develop and value-add products, where community groups can deliver food education, where individuals can host private celebrations, where the community can host food gatherings that offer connection and essential life skills, where families can learn together and take home meals for their freezer. We haven’t just built a kitchen, we are aiming to create a food hub full of celebration, opportunity and good food grown by local farmers.” Selah Koile, the coordinator for The Good Food Hub Kitchen adds, “We want to inspire our community to prepare more of their own food with wholesome ingredients. Developing healthy food habits requires a certain amount of motivation. We hope to offer support and motivation by building skills and confidence, but most importantly by facilitating connection and conversation around the table.” For More Information Please contact: Kelly Marie Redcliffe, Manager [email protected] W: 902-687-3344 C: 902-690-7951 Selah Koile, Good Food Hub Project Coordinator [email protected] W: 902-697-3344 C: 902-680-6856
