Word has reached us today that Donny Joe Prevost - a member of both the 22nd and 28th Massachusetts - has lost his long and courageous battle with cancer. Those of us who have had the privilege of fielding with Donny know what a talented musician, gifted artist, brave man and gentle soul he was. Donny served with distinction as a U.S. Marine in Vietnam and after completing his service, developed a passionate and abiding interest in the American Civil War. His love for living history was evident to all whose lives he touched. In his final weeks - while his paintings adorned a gallery in Bostons Museum of Fine Arts - it was his personal mission to the field with the 28th Massachusetts at the 150th anniversary reenactment of the Battle of Cedar Creek, Virginia. Having him in the ranks with us was an honor and privilege. When memorial services have been scheduled, details will be posted here. In the meantime, please remember Donnys family, friends, fans and 22nd Massachusetts comrades in your thoughts and prayers at this sad and difficult time.
