Word of the Day: emolument. I was reading Stephen Kings novel - TopicsExpress

Word of the Day: emolument. I was reading Stephen Kings novel REVIVAL when I chipped a brain tooth on emolument, which means a fee or payment for a service. It comes from the Latin emolumentum, a fee paid to a miller. The Latin words molere and morlaris mean to grind and grinder respectively, e.g. molar tooth. Why King would have a rock-n-roll rhythm guitarist and reformed drug addict use emolument in first-person prose is confusing. Is it more common in America?
