Words to live by. I have said many of the same things to my children. Especially the part about technology, kids think they have it all however they have nothing of what I had as a kid growing up. We were allowed to play outside without our parents fearing we would be shot, kidnapped or worse. We used our imagination when we played. We didnt have someone imagining for us like with video games. We played cops and robbers, cowboys and Indians and our guns looked real but not one police officer walking by would ever give a second glance our way in fear that they may be real, we were kids he knew they werent. We had family time, played board games, watched movies and t.v. shows together because parents didnt have to fear that something on t.v. might be inappropriate for a child unless it was late at night and even then an announcement would be made to the fact. We communicated with each other, ate dinner together EVERY NIGHT, and said Grace before we did. Went to Church and had Sunday dinner at Grandmoms house every week. We learned how to add without the use of a calculator and give change without the help of a register. When we talked to someone we looked them in the eye and actually spoke real words. We didnt communicate via text messages. Kids nowadays think we had it so rough but they are the ones I feel sorry for because they will never experience all theses things. Theses things taught us self reliance, how to figure things out on our own, how to solve our own problems and not to blame someone else as so often is the case today.
