Workshop on Ecosystem-based Adaptation to Climate Change: Assisting the Batanghari River Basin to Adapt Climate Change. ______ The Batanghari river is the longest river in Sumatra (3222 km) and is a cross-province watershed system. Currently, the Batanghari ecosystem is considered critical because destruction of forest in the upstream has caused heavy run-off and sedimentation, which has changed the hydro-logical pattern and traditional livelihood system. Considering the importance of the Batanghari river basin, a development strategy using sustainable landscape criteria needs to be developed for the watershed to become resilient to climate change. Biodiversity and ecosystem services have to be parts of an overall adaptation strategy that is used to help people adapt to the adverse effect of climate change. Therefore, the workshop conducted by RCCC UI was collaboration with University of Reading and University of Jambi which was objective to identify the urgent needs of research, training, and outreach related to ecosystem-based climate change adaptation in Batanghari river basin. The workshop was held in the Golden Harvest Hotel, Jambi at 11 July 2012. This event was attended by more than 40 people, including the participants, speakers, and committees. Participant were coming from various institutions and agencies including government agencies, local NGOs, and university representing almost all development sectors in Jambi Province.
