Worth watching and discussing. Interesting to note that the economy/pensions negative argument seemed to have more traction than the extra powers argument by the final week and that their prediction, based on a YouGov sample of 4,840 people, indicated that, if the Referendum had been held one week later, then the result would have been closer! So, were people REALLY swayed by Browns Vow or was it more his Scare the old folks tactic? Also that one of our most powerful arguments was for greater social equality - so, well done the RIC, Common Weal, and, indeed, Business for Scotland who advocated a more inclusive business model! The Defence/Trident argument was passed over in this clip. Id be interested to see what effect that had on the vote. A general observation was that we need to have solid convincing arguments, in the sectors where they demonstrate risk-aversion, to win over the more (Note: small c) conservative elements in our society. They probably make up a substantial chunk of the 6% extra we need - Id say Labour-nostalgics make up the rest and THEYd probably need more solid arguments in those areas too. From there, I would identify the hope/rationality-based currency argument as a weak point: we needed a costed and detailed plan B and authoritatively-backed support for that. I suspect we needed a more detailed Defence plan backed by high-ranking military strategists and, ideally, foreign politicians whose countries operate a similar structure to that proposed. We needed a detailed plan as to exactly how we would encourage investment in Scotland beyond the Corporation tax-cut - which itself was an easy target for Labour - and, precisely, how we would encourage native investment and entrepreneurs who, pace Michelle Mone, are less likely to up-sticks for foreign parts. And we needed, early on, a massive educational campaign to explain how a deficit works in as simple terms as possible so that we would not be vulnerable to repeated UK assertions that We spend more than we produce. youtu.be/bAC42VUwjXU
