Wow. Escape from New York on the tube. So lemme use this commercial break ;-) One of my fave dystopian flicks from my youth. Back then, of course, that whole vision was like... wow. And given how chaotic NY was in the early 80s, people actually believed that a rise in crime over 400% may very well be possible by the late 80s. So, with graffiti and punk rock being on the rise then, enhancing the overall feeling of loss of control, it wasnt hard to imagine NY to become a prison. Well, they havent anticipated Rudolph Giuliani LOL But, two things were dead on, in their predictions. Namely, the USA fighting obscure wars at the edge of civilization, for resources, barely holding on the status of, well, super power. And, the over-militarization of police. Excellent flick!
