Wow, I knew todays post would create a discussion and it did - my appearance on 700 Club and Fox and Friends. Some have even gone so far as to suggest my mom was not a friend of either. I can only tell you my mom loved EVERYONE, as do I. Beyond the Heavens explores one of the greater issues in our world; how Faith and Science each play a role in our lives. That is a conversation everyone should have, no matter what you believe. They are two elements of our everyday existence, they affect so much of what we do and others do in our name. That should be discussed. I WILL NOT EVER eliminate one single person, Network, or audience from entering in that conversation with me. I value all opinions. I do as my mother taught me, to look at things from all sides, squarely and fairly and form my own opinions, my own truths. That is at the very core of Beyond the Heavens. So yes, I visit shows and discuss with people who, like me, have a definite opinion on these matters. I find a place where we agree and disagree but do so with respect. I take great exception with those who have suggested they know what my mother would think about this. Flat out, you dont and you are wrong to think she would disapprove. In fact shed be right there with me, exploring, investigating, challenging, and in the end loving. Her photo was on a wall there! Some have said they can no longer be my friend over this. I say to them, fare thee well then, my community INCLUDES ALL… from the 700 club to Fox and Friends to my great gay friends and everyone in between. I do not, nor will I ever exclude anyone. Even if a show Im on is exclusive themselves. I do not judge but rather enter into a conversation. That is who I am. You dont like that, then yes, go find people who feel exactly like you do on all things and pat each other on the back with affirmation of your righteousness. But be sure to invite me on your show because I would like to sit in on that as well. Yes, will the audience of the shows Im on promoting Beyond the Heavens be receptive to the film, you bet. But hey, get me on Howard Stern and Ill talk about it there as well. Love all. Love. THAT was my mother. Youre forgiven for your arrogance in thinking you knew her better than me. Peace.
