Wow what a journey! 10 years ago today I loaded up 3 Longhorn heifers and entered the world of raising Texas Longhorn cattle. Little did I know then just how much they would change my life! I am so humbled to get to make a living breeding and raising this wonderful breed. The ranch has changed so much over the years. 2014 brought the final touches on the ranch’s holding and working facilities, calving barns and out buildings. We have finally reached the point where one person can pull a cow from any part of the ranch and move with ease. Everything is done onsite from producing high quality hay for our cattle to AI’ing our cows to other industry leading herd bulls. The groundwork for our embryo lab has been done and construction on that will soon take place. We thought we had something when we bought our first 60” cow 10 years ago and today 90% of cows on our ranch are over 70” or 80” T2T! We have been honored to own the longest horned bull in the world for total for the past several years and 2014 brought the acquisition of the great Big Wig who is 85 ½” T2T and growing! Our breeding focus moving on is to continue to breed the next level of cattle and to only offer cattle for sale that we would buy ourselves. Being able to work with this wonderful breed and work outside in nature is a true blessing! We can see God’s handiwork first hand and are constantly reminded just how powerful of a God we serve! I feel like I have a lifetime of stories to tell already and it’s only been 10 years! From being caught out in some of the most spectacular storms, to sitting atop a hill and listening to the birds singing as the sun sets in the west, to walking outside as the first hint of dawn streaks across the sky and taking a breath of that fresh country air, to trail driving cattle across thousands of acres and the feeling of awe that comes over you, to the sound of a mother cow mooing at her newborn calf. God has blessed more than I can ever say!
