Written by Apostle S. E. Calvin Dead to the darkness of this world Repentance kills demons Free from all evil Disorder means you are out of God He only has power over you in sin (Rom 6: 14) For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. Present tense salvation The salvation God gives us is complex and complete. Romans 6 is about “present tense” salvation. We are being saved by Christ as He releases us from the grip of darkness and enables us to live a righteous life now in the face of God and filling our human spirit with the powers of heaven to fight evil. Breaking free from evil: Dominion over you in every area of your life The power over or to rule your soul and spirit/ controlling the things you speak/ someone or something that won’t allow you to be free from evil/… (Domination), sovereign authority over by means of war: To conquer, conquerers, territorial by means of subjection to the Kingdom of darkness or under his power to live for him. A government that lord over it’s people. CONTROL OR TO RULE. We who were joined to (“baptized into”) Christ were so truly united with Him that His death was our death—a death that frees us from the power of DARKNESS in our lives. More, His resurrection is our resurrection. Sharing that life, we now are able to live to God AND FREE FROM THE POWERS OF DARKNESS: We can experience this spiritual reality—by faith. We count ourselves dead to sin on the basis of God’s Word and refuse to be under the wrong Kingdom, we choose not to let sin rule, and we offer every part of ourselves to God as His instruments to be used for righteousness and live in the faith of the word of God. Now Paul digresses briefly: What we experience depends on what we choose. If we choose to sin, we will be slaves of darkness. If we choose to obey God, we will serve the ends of righteousness and holiness to God. And what a difference the choice makes! The outcome of obedience is a holiness which pays eternal dividends. But the only wages sin pays is death under the powers of demons. Rendered powerless (Rom 6:6) The tendency toward sin remains imbedded in the human personality even after conversion, and we feel its pull trying to make us do wrong things. But we do not have to choose sin. Our sin nature no longer has the capacity to dominate us, even though we retain freedom of choice and can choose to sin if we wish. Never say, “I couldn’t help it” when you do wrong. The Gospel’s good news is you can help it. Christ saves us from the power of darkness, and through this spirit of the Holy Ghost, we don’t have to serve the power of our flesh. But humble ourselves in the spirit of obedience. The role of faith Romans 6:1-10 presents basic truths that serve as the foundation for living the Christian life. Romans 6:11-14 shows us what we are to do, based on these truths. Here, as in past tense salvation, the key is a truly biblical faith. And that kind of faith “counts on” the reality of our death with Christ so that the choice we make is to reject sin and choose to do righteousness. Counting on our union with Christ does not create that unity. It already exists in our human spirit through the death on the cross. Counting on our union with Christ enables us to experience that union in our daily lives by living a life to the obedience to the Holy Spirit of POWER. Choose your master Life is made up of daily choices. But there are also basic, life-shaping choices each of us makes. Paul asks us to consider and make one of those life-shaping choices now so you can get dominion over the realm of evil. We can follow our sinful human desires and live a life marked by the deadness that characterizes the unsaved life to Satan. Or we can choose to commit ourselves to God, determining that we will reject sin and make God will our goal in life.
