Every day therapists, counselors, social workers, religious leaders, teachers and parents deal with traumatized children. Some of these children are psychologically and emotionally damaged and their normal functioning is seriously hampered. Play therapy uses a variety of techniques that provide an opportunity for the child to communicate emotions, feelings, experiences and behavior. Therapists use the responses in play to intervene and to heal. It can be said that Play Therapy is the systematic use of Gestalt philosophy to establish an interpersonal process wherein play therapists use the therapeutic powers of play to help clients prevent or resolve psychosocial challenges and achieve optimal growth and development. A working definition might be a form of counseling that therapeutically engages the power of play to communicate with and help people, especially children, to engender optimal integration and individualization. CPD CREDITS The Center for Play Therapy and Training is an SACSSP (South African Council for Social Service Professions), as well as a HPCSA (Health Professions Council of South Africa) registered center and as such a provider of 20 CPD credits per Level 1 Play Therapy and 15 CPD credits per Level 2 Play Therapy courses. 35 CPD credits for both! PLAY THERAPY: LEVEL 1 COURSE (25 HOURS, 4 DAYS) 20 CPD credits The course provides the following: A sound knowledge and understanding of play therapy based on the Gestalt approach. An ability to communicate significantly and effectively with the child, using play therapy. An ability to use creative metaphors to work therapeutically with children. An opportunity to practice the different play techniques. An ability to assess a child using play therapy. An ability to detect and understand the inner child. PLAY THERAPY: LEVEL 2 COURSE (20 – 22 HOURS, 3½ DAYS) 15 CPD credits Te course provides the following: An opportunity to implement the theoretical basis of the Level 1 course and integrate advanced Play Therapy and Gestalt knowledge. An opportunity to compare the Gestalt approach to other approaches. An ability to understand and utilize the process of play therapy. An ability to utilize advanced Play Therapy techniques in assessment and treatment, within the framework of the Schoeman model.
