YOU ARE DESECRATING OUR CULTURE......ACCORD TELLS AJIMOBI Accord Party has taken on Gov Ajimobi of oyo state,accusing him of being insensitive to the cultural value of yorubaland. Accord in a release signed by its Media Director,PrinceDotun Oyelade cited the pulling down of the statue of Basorun Ogunmola and replacing it with a fountain in the name of city beautification as an assault on age-long culture The statue of Basorun Ogunmola,the famed brave warrior who led many battles to secure Ibadan land was erected at the Total Garden round-about but was pulled down recently and replaced with a fountain But Prince Oyelade said that the fact that there is no water to run the fountain is not the issue,but that any goverment could attempt to supplant the memory of one of the icons of yoruba history is baffling Accord also cited the erection of a musical symbol at orita Challenge in Ibadan with the bold inscription that says 'SEKERE ALAAFIN'.it must be noted that orita challenge is a major gate-way to Ibadan land from time immemorial and to make such an insensitive allusion is unthinkable. If the goverment did that to score a political point,then it should bear the consequence at the right time. Accord said that people are right to read meaning into such actions especially when,not too long ago,the Ajimobi goverment overturned the status quo by removing the Olubadan as the Chairman of the state Council of Obas and Chiefs.
