Ya know, when I first heard a few years back about this new prequel version of Star Trek was being made I was skeptical. I liked the first film that came out in 2009 but I LOVED this recent one that came out in 2013! I am one of those people that watched the original series when it was on prime time (yes, I am THAT old!) and have always been a huge fan of the original series and the Next Generation. What I love about this film is that the cast seemed to really embrace their characters so much more than the one that came out in 2009. Probably my favorite actor in this film Simon Pegg(from Shaun of the Dead) as Scotty; I thought he stole every scene he was in; I want them to make a film just about Scotty! I also loved the performance of Karl Urban( from Lord of the Rings) as Bones (aka Dr. McCoy). With each performance of the younger versions of the original characters , I found myself feeling nostalgic about watching the original show.However, even if you are not a Star Trek fan, I think you would like this film and could enjoy the amazing story and action. Benedict Cumberbatch is excellent as the villain, Khan, and it was interesting to see Peter Weller in this film. This film is currently available on Netflix instant watch and, my guess is, on long flights. I highly recommend this movie! imdb/title/tt1408101/
