Yakima Symphony Orchestra Extends Golan’s Contract! The Yakima Symphony Orchestra’s Board of Directors and its Music Director, Lawrence Golan, have agreed on a 7-year contract extension keeping Golan with the symphony through June 2022. Golan has been Music Director of the Yakima Symphony Orchestra since July 2010. He is also Director of Orchestral Studies and Professor of Conducting at the University of Denvers Lamont School of Music as well as Music Director of the Denver Philharmonic Orchestra. This month the York Symphony Orchestra in Pennsylvania announced it had hired Golan as its new Music Director beginning with the 2014-15 season. Although holding multiple Music Directorships across the country will be a challenge, Golan is confident that the schedules of the orchestras will complement one another well and that his commitment to the Yakima Symphony Orchestra will not diminish in any way. Things are going very well with the orchestra right now and they continue to move in the right direction. Even so, there is still more that we can accomplish together and I look forward to working with the wonderful board, musicians, staff and volunteers to reach even greater heights, said Golan. The Yakima Symphony has had only two Music Directors in its 43-year history. Founding Music Director Brooke Creswell retired in 2010. ysomusic.org
