Years ago, a faithful couple, good friends of ours, had lost their baby. This baby was just a few weeks old and it died suddenly. They really believed that God was the one who took their baby because the time was up. At almost the same time, another dear couple also had a miscarriage and they thought that it was God punishing them. My goodness! I screamed in my heart. “No! It is not MY God!” Let me ask you this. Do you really want to worship that kind of god – the one who will give you something that you really love and then all of a sudden take it back from you? Isn’t He God? When He gives you something, will He then regret and say, “ Ooopss….I was wrong. I shouldn’t have given it to you. “ ??? My friend, if you want to know about God’s character, just take a look at Jesus. God is not the taker of life, He is the giver of life! Jesus said in John 10:10 “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly”. So it is clearly stated here that the one who steals is the thief, which is the devil. Jesus has come to give us life, and not just an ordinary life but an extraordinary life full of blessing. Can you show me in the Bible where Jesus killed somebody? No, you can not. He healed all the sick and even raised the dead. ” how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.” (Act 10:38) Jesus would do nothing against His Father’s will. So if Jesus spent all of His life ministering to the sick and the poor, it clearly shows us that God wants people to be healed and be set free from the works of evil. If healing and raising people from death are against God’s will, would God annoint Jesus? No, He would not. Jesus said in John 5:19 that He could not do anything of Himself, but whatever He saw the Father did, He also did in like manner. In the Old Testament, death could be a punishment from God. Thousands of Israelites were killed in the desert because they disobeyed God, but after Jesus died on the cross for our sin, God would never do that again. There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. (Romans 8:1) Well, up to this point some of you might want to refer to Job’s very famous saying which is so often ironically abused. “And he said: “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, And naked shall I return there. The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away; Blessed be the name of the LORD.”(Job 1:21) My friend, I’m not blaming you. I also used to believe that this verse showed the true nature of our God : He gave and He took it back. This left me uncertain about everything I have in my life. I was afraid to love something too much as I thought that I might lose it at anytime. But I thank the Holy Spirit for revealing the truth to me. If you read the book of Job carefully, you will know that Job said those words out of his frustration and unknowing about what happened to him. He thought that he had been living a blameless life before God but still the terrible things destroyed him. He lost everything he had in just one day. He had never known that the devil was behind all of this, not God. His saying that God gave and God took away was the only thing that could make sense to him at that time. Job was trying to reason this misfortune and he came up with that conclusion. My friend, let me tell you that it is not true. I don’t understand why so many believers abuse this verse, especially when they are talking to others who are experiencing bad things such as loss and death. Do you know how destructive it is? I must say that God’s character has been really misinterpreted by this saying. Death and loss in our lives are some of the consequences the fallen of the earth, but thanks to Jesus, by His death and resurrection we are now given authority and power to overcome those bad things. #gracevictoryministry
