Years ago, my mom went to a taping a The David Letterman show. During the warm up act, security had to talk to the very young, very loud and very drunk woman next to her about how she either needed to control herself or would be escorted out. Most would be so annoyed, but ma leaned over to her and whispered, Im going to leave my hand here on the armrest, if you feel the need to yell out, you just squeeze my hand instead. Mom spent most of the show holding a drunk strangers hand. Afterwards, the woman thanked my mom profusely, apologized, and told her she was going through a really, really rough patch. Mom smiled and said she was glad there was a way for them to both enjoy the show. Takes a lot of grit to be as kind as my ma.
