Yes, you are right, a black scorpion is not a pleasant sight but neither is the sight of a wounded black lion.Several friends have written to me asking what rationale street revolutionaries have in demanding the resignation of elected and mandated prime minister and chief minister even if the elections were rigged. Since the elected officials are using their private army of Gullus and Pomis and have militarized their police service to block the protesters thru seaport containers and other violent means, it is hard to restrain the protesters who want to articulate their voice in clear terms. I am glad that the young lawyers and judges of Pakistan are awake and old timers like me do not have to offer a legal opinion. Yesterday, the Sessions Court of Lahore, on a petition filed by PAT whose workers were killed at the behest of Punjab administration, ordered Punjab Police to register murder cases against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and twenty other associates of the Prime Minister including Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif (shown together in the attached photo). Dr. Tahir Qadri may not be a saint (at least not yet with his hands on the trigger as shown below)) but as a plaintiff in this murder case he deserves proper legal relief. It is a standard practice all over the world that public officials who are facing murder charges must step aside from their official positions to defend themselves vigorously in a court of law. There is legal precedent in Pakistan also for such a practice. With all the black lions and scorpions roaming around the streets of Islamabad, the atmosphere has been so poisoned that very few antidotes are available. Imran and Tahir Qadri have dozens of demands between them. The Sessions Court has facilitated the first step and the Sharifs will be well advised to get a bail before arrest. Like everybody else, they are entitled to a good legal defense and my law firm with over half a century of experience in criminal legal defense will be happy to assist them as they would proclaim their innocence.
