Yesterday - as Mr McCartney once opined twang-ily to great adulation - all my troubles seemed so far away - well Im back in London and as ever in life theyre still here waiting for me - currently mainly in the form of a furry rodent as yet un-trapped by science or brute force. Im am therefore talking to the pest controllers once again. Brighter subjects - the Maidenhead Con club quiz night was pretty tough last night but somehow were for the moment ahead on points.Whether we will be next month remains to be seen! Im actually quite enjoying it and the couple we play with on the team are very nice indeed. I gather the club is also making a stab at Eggheads on TV - without my aid as they say. They will call their team Con Men....note men only! We went to the low cost supermarkets for Xmas food shopping and cornered many many bargains - especially crustacea and champagne. I will be on Christmas pudding watch next week and then cake and mince pie duties. I want to get the worse of it done before the first sunday of Advent - which is the last Sunday of November. Two more Requiems lined up for this weeks music fest - Victoria and Francisco Guerrero - both at the Oratory. I also need to buy my cards and get that off the ground. ive seen some sinful presents for others to enjoy. I can say no more as I do not want to lose the element of surprise. Sadly baby sitting duties mean I must miss Messiah at Westminster Cathedral on 12th Nov - which ought to be a belter of a night. It is such a good choir! I will keep my next set of personal November Remembrances until tomorrow - a leg of lamb is waiting my attention in the kitchen - garlic, olive oil and some fenugreek as a rub and off we go....I thought Id offer cherry& cranberry orange cake and Greek yogurt with raspberries for a pudding... Ive got to go visit a couple of care homes - including the one St Peters off Fentiman Road run by Sisters of Poor where the pope visited on his UK state visit. Theyre all much of a muchness and as one guy said to me - in the end this is no one first choice - and that as Coward once said - is the end of the news.... https://youtube/watch?v=0FlOIjVOI-k
