Yesterday I had the great pleasure of going on CBCs All Points - TopicsExpress

Yesterday I had the great pleasure of going on CBCs All Points West show to present the grand total we raised for the Mustard Seed and the Sidney Lions Food Bank. And grand it is! This year we are really proud to announce that we raised $24,000.00 to be split evenly between the two food banks. Earlier today Glenda delivered the cheques to the very pleased Bev Elder at the Sidney Lions Food Bank, making both their day. Last year our total was $15,000.00 - this year is truly mind blowing. Thank you to all who contributed to the success of the show. Going to the open house, at the CBC has become a fun tradition for us, and this year was a rather poignant one, as it is Jo-Ann Roberts last food bank show. She has always been such a stalwart supporter of the show; we will truly miss her on-air presence. After all the hard work and hours spent on this show, the CBCs annual food bank drive is a great wrap party to attend. Brent Palmer from the Mustard Seed is a delight - he is like a little kid at Christmas; first, he wants the total to be a surprise to him when I announce it, and then he spends the hour before I go on air trying to wheedle hints out of me. I always watch his face as I announce the total - he lights up with joy. I cannot possibly thank everyone who helped pull this mammoth undertaking together, but I will try to cover a few. First, many, many thanks to all of our song sponsors! A special thank you to our Gold Buckle level sponsors, Shelley Gudgeon of Il Terrazzo Ristorante, and Duncan Sinclair of Deloitte in Vancouver. I have to mention John Stubbs of Richardson GMP - he is a huge supporter of the Vancouver show, and contacted me to ask how much it would be to place an ad in our program. Which then prompted us to create a program! Many thanks to both Andy Dohlberg and Tom Martin, who helped me with finding song sponsors. And many many humble thanks to our team of tireless volunteers, and our Boots on the Ground Crew: Dan Gentile, Phil Cotterell, Tris & Lisa Gentile, Aimes Gentile, Lyse Gentile, Alwyn Crocker, Tanner Exelby and Richard Elliott. Thank you to the Bentall family and the Hawthorne Foundation for their grant. And, of course, many thanks to Barney Bentall who dreamed up and heads up this amazing tour de force of a show! Thanks to all the musicians: Dustin Bentall, Kendel Carson, Ridley Bent, Leeroy Stagger, Wendy Bird, Matt Masters, Angela Harris, Erik Reid, Rob Becker, Geoff Hicks, and Scott Smith. We also announced the new name of the Opry show. From now on, Barney has decided to go under the name The Cariboo Express, so look for that next year! Merry Christmas everyone, and thanks so much for all your support with this show and all our endeavors throughout the year. cheers, Leslie
