Yesterday I went to Target This afternoon (late in the afternoon) the telephone techie comes to find out why the phone in middle of house wont work When that phone conked out last month, he said it is because the jack had gone to heaven He installed a new jack and it worked fine Then a week later, we had itsy bitsy drizzle it lasted under a minute No one in Tucson even knew it rained, except for me sitting here on Facebook next to an open window And my telephone which always shorts out in the rain It comes back a few hours later when it dries up Two wonderful telephone techies had come out to solve that problem They each did beautiful exquisite work But both times after they left it rained the next day And the problem was back The second one, Roman (what a lovely young man he was!) Left behind a spindle of telephone wire I called him the next day and said Ill leave it on the chair outside my front door that way you can pick it up at your convenience. And a few days after he arrived at my front door to pick it up That was the day after it had rained 18 drops that no one knew about but me and my telephone I said it happened again. He said Let me come in and look at it. He decided my phone should not go to the outside box He looked at the modem on my desk And said it is expired. He said Call them and tell them to put in a new modem for you and attach your telephone to that so the wire will not go to outside box. And they sent a techie to do exactly that And I thought Finally its over the problem has been solved. It had been going on all summer when big rains used to knock out my phone for a week It took so long to dry out. The techie who put in the new modem and attached my phone to that was totally expert but not sensitive, sweet and shy like the other techies. I tried to have friendly conversation with him too but he gave me a headache (it was like having a television star in the house) I was so glad when he left. And was glad that finally my telephone problems were all solved I had given my books to all the other telephone techies And they sure were glad to get them But it didnt even cross my mind to offer any of them to the techie who gave me a headache There is no way he could ever understand me Altho Roman said he had started to read my book HABOOB. Its funny he said. The techie who had put in the new jack for me for phone in middle of house rerouted it to telephone thing-y outside the wall from it that I didnt even know I had When I discovered two days ago that phone wouldnt work I called COX She said Anne when they attached your main phone to modem it means that none of the other extensions in your house would work. I said but the one in bedroom works. She suggested that maybe I would be willing to live with not having a phone in the middle of the house But it is convenient for me to have phone in middle of house, not just at either end Sometimes I am in middle of house and dont want to race to the end to pick up the phone And now that winter is here and I have to go to backyard to be warm in that lovely toasty sunshine That was the extension I took to the backyard with me So she said OK Ill send a techie Friday afternoon (that is now today) So yesterday I went to Target to buy a phone identical to the one in my bedroom The guy who helped me, Sky, was wonderful I really appreciate all the help I get from people who know everything in stores because I know nothing He had just what I wanted and I bought it I called Jim early in the morning I need a new phone, I am willing to be very brave and drive to Target myself It will take me ten minutes to get ready. 20 minutes to drive there, 20 minutes in the store Why dont you estimate the time and meet me in front and then well go to the pool. He said What route will you take? Target is only 2 and a half miles from me but it is complicated I told him my route. Its good that I did because it turned out I was mixed up about where Target is. I had planned to turn into a shopping center on corner of Craycroft Blvd and Broadway Which was so easy for me because I was going to go up Craycroft Blvd But Jim said That is not where Target is. I had mixed up Toys R Us with Target Target is a few shopping centers past on Broadway I have to drive on Broadway It is right after that first light Jim told me. I was so surprised to arrive in the nearly empty parking lot and there was Jim He lives right behind Target He knows me so well that even tho the parking lot was nearly empty he knew I would park far away from any other car When I got out of the truck I saw Jim parked just where I had parked He is expert at parking and always parks right in front of store He hates the long hike to the car What are you doing here? I said. I want to check out their TVs It is football season and Jims whole life is football When his friend gave him his old flat screen 50 inch, it never worked right Jim had to dig out his old small tv Which I guess didnt matter for Hogans Heros his favorite show and scary movies, he loves scary movies. He hates to spend money But he is willing to to consider treating himself to brand new flat screen 50 inch because of football. So we walked into the store together and walked all the way to the back for electronics I wanted to bring Sky over to help Jim after I bought my phone But he had disappeared He was already in the car smoking his big cigar and we drove to the pool together. The sun has reached my back yard I will make coffee and drink it there I wish you all a wonderful Friday I love you Annie
