Yesterdays Report: Ledbury Hunt 9th January: We decided to go - TopicsExpress

Yesterdays Report: Ledbury Hunt 9th January: We decided to go out early today to do some sett-checking before trying to find the Ledbury Hunt who go out on Fridays. We got a tip-off just before midday that they were in the Hartpury area, so we headed down to them and found them near Murrells End. From there they hunted around a similar area to a few weeks ago when police received numerous complaints from locals of hounds hunting through gardens and supporters weeing in garden hedges. At one point sabs watched the hounds in full cry running through a covert by Woolridge. As the hounds were coming towards them, they stayed quiet and kept cameras and eyes trained on the edges of the trees to watch for an animal to break. Master Roger Warner rode up to ask them to move back to the footpath as the landowner was getting upset and was told theyd be happy to head back to the road once they were satisfied the hounds werent chasing an animal. Sure enough, as a deer broke cover and ran towards the road, huntsman Mark Meladay quickly rode towards the hounds and called them off. Strange that they claim to be trail-hunting... We were with the hunt on and off throughout the day (not helped by the breakdown of one of our vehicles, although it didnt hold us up for too long and we amused some locals by pushing it all the way along a road - photos to follow someday...) through floods, strong winds and gates on public footpath decorated with dead crows on strings. We spent some time in Ashleworth Nature Reserve making sure the hunt stayed out of there before moving on to Corse. The hunt packed up at Stonebow Farm just as it was starting to get dark, with masters Roger Warner and David Redvers telling sabs that we did the right thing - we told them to give the keys back. When asked who did it, however, they said they didnt know and had just told everyone that they werent that kind of hunt and that whoever stole the keys should return them. Of course. They should also remind field riders not to ride and shout at sabs, especially when riding along footpaths and that they should respect the country code and CLOSE GATES! See you again soon Ledbury! 3C
