Yorkshire-based (and nearby!) people, we have some FREE afternoon and evening activities coming up in Leeds, OPEN TO ALL, and of interest to anyone thinking about environmental and social issues, journalism, world history, photography, world literature, film, charity and fundraising, and international politics. Drop us a line to let us know youre coming: postcolonialdisaster@gmail 1.) Zine Workshop: Writing Environmental Justice, Friday 28 Nov, 2.15-4.00pm. The workshop is open to students as well as the public, and participants will get an introduction to some of the key environmental and social issues relating to disasters before going on to take part in producing a DIY zine that will be published online. The workshop is being run by Melanie Boeckmann, a PhD researcher at the University of Bremen, and should be a great way for those interested either in journalism or in environmental issues to develop practical, transferable skills by collaborating on producing a zine. postcolonialdisaster/28-nov-2014-zine-workshop-on-writing-environmental-justice/ 2.) Bhopal30: Leeds, Monday 1st December, 5.30-9.00pm An evening of thought-provoking discussions commemorating the Bhopal Disaster’s 30th anniversary, at The Tetley: including Melanie Hadida of the Bhopal Medical Appeal, a simulcast of The SOAS Globalization Lecture, with: Vandana Shiva & Ravi Rajan, Globalization Since Bhopal: Three Decades of Environmental Disaster – to be followed by discussion with attendees, and closed with Performance poetry by Avaes Mohammad - poet, playwright, and author of Bhopal and other works. postcolonialdisaster/activities/bhopal30-leeds/ 3.) Bhopal Anniversary Workshop, Tuesday December 2nd, 3.30-5.30pm. This will be led by Dr. Shamira Meghani and other postcolonial researchers on disaster, and is especially relevant for those with interests in world history, photography, world literature, film, charity and fundraising, and international politics. Pre-release Screening of Bhopal: A Prayer for Rain, dir.
