You know that saying: Do one thing every day that scares you? - TopicsExpress

You know that saying: Do one thing every day that scares you? Well, I started doing something that really scares me last September. It also inspires me, fuels me, makes me feel hopeful and strong, centered and dynamic, present and eternal - and infinitely, infinitely human. Last September, on a whim ignited six years ago, I jumped into Yoga Teacher Training. Its a 200 hour course, led by the ethereal and oh-so-lovely Christina Alexa, the goddess behind Sacred Waters Yoga in Meredith, NH, as well as the Abhyasa Yoga Institute. I had many, many reasons why I should never have considered doing this. First, there was the logistics. Its a pretty significant time commitment, where I would disappear for whole weekends at a time and leave all the home and parenting fun to my darling Allen. (Thank you, honey!) Second, many of my yoga poses are amusing, even clumsy versions of their full expressions. I certainly cant do some of the extraordinary ones that Ive seen in magazines and movies! For me, it is definitely, DEFINITELY a working practice, all about tiny tweaks and subtle adjustments that seem to make a wee bit of progress every now and then. In other words, sometimes it just aint purty! But I do my best. But the big reason why I never thought Id be able to jump into Yoga Teacher Training at this point my life is simply this: I do not do not DO NOT have the Traditional Yoga Teachers Body. Far from svelt, miles away from lithe and contortion-y, I show up on my mat with a hearty helping of goddess flesh decorating my - lets say - bodacious, ultra abundant curves. Everyone knows curvy, ample, er ... Rubenesque girls cant be yoga teachers, right? Turns out Im about to test that theory. Any chance you remember that old commercial where Anita Bryant said, Orange Juice: Its not just for breakfast anymore? Yoga: Its not just for Skinny Minnies anymore. So...heres the deal. Im teaching my very first yoga class on Sunday, March 30, at 2:30 PM at Sacred Waters Yoga. Its a FREE class, open to the public. Full disclosure: Im TERRIFIED to tell anyone about this, including myself. But alas, here I am, making it public, just in case youd like to come. It will be an all-levels class. It will likely even be a little bit fun. In fact, there are FIVE free yoga classes being offered ALL DAY by many of my beautiful and talented YTT goddesses - at 10:00am, 11:30am, 1:00pm, 2:30pm, and 4:00pm. Whether youre an advanced Yogini, or you call Downward Dog what my six-year-old calls it, which is Upward Butt, youre more than welcome to spend some time at this gorgeous yoga studio, overlooking Lake Winnipesaukee, with any or all of us. Who knows – this yoga thing might just change your life. I know it has changed mine, and continues to do so. Namaste!
