You know this is the 100 anniversary of the beginning of World War 1 and there is very little chatter regarding remembering the sacrifices 16 million people who died during that long and bloody conflict. Have you read The Guns of August? Why not? it is a Pulitzer Prize-winning book on the start of the war. Here is a haunting ballad from the wonderful Irish group Celtic Thunder that memorializes arguably one of the more famous scenes from the war. Although the title and lyrics refer to Christmas 1915, the event actually happened Christmas Eve 1914. Because the combatants high command were greatly concerned the units involved would refuse to fight each other after this event, the units were transferred to other fronts (the German units were transferred from the western front (France) to the eastern (Russian) front:: https://youtube/watch?v=ATZOYOEwQu4
