You might notice a little evolution of the humor of the cartoons, - TopicsExpress

You might notice a little evolution of the humor of the cartoons, as least with the narrative. As I contact newspapers I am getting one of two reactions. One is they love the cartoons. That is usually due to the editor/publisher I am talking to has spent some time in the oilfield and they really appreciate the humor. Which actually surprised me somewhat, I just had not considered a newspaper person having spent some time in the field, but then again I am sure they did not expect a cartoonist to have field time as well. The other reaction I am hearing is that they do not get the humor and they do not think their audience would appreciate the humor, even though they are in an oilfield community. I do understand that reaction completely, so I will try to reduce the oilfield terminology, while maintaining the oilfield props, and culture. I realize and respect the oilfield and its own unique culture. The last thing I want is for somebody to think I am abandoning the focus of the cartoon. The cartoon CRUDE has always been my way of bringing honor and respect to the oilfield, and that will always remain the focus. Think of the changes more as my attempt to bring more people into the unique culture. If anybody has any suggestions on where/how I could locate a list of oilfield towns in states let me know. I am currently trying to match up topographical oilfield maps to states then locate towns that may have newspapers. It is very time consuming. I am trying to locate newspapers that would want to utilize a free weekly oilfield cartoon. At my day job with NCTC I was contacted by a government official of Uganda. This the fourth African country I have been contacted by looking for an oilfield training center. If I had an independent training facility I could easily have at least 300 students a year just from the countries I have been contacted by. The problem at NCTC is it just a small community college. I have a hard time getting instructors to cover the 120 students we currently have. That is with the classes maxed out at 30 students, and utilizing one classroom. At the Bowie Campus we do not have residence halls, nor even any type of food service. Even being a small community college in a small remote town we still have 20% of the Petroleum Technology Students from Africa. I am still amazed at the dedication and sacrifices of all the students I work with. If you hire oilfield employees I invite you to give me call, and drop by the campus to introduce your company and meet the students. So far, the large 13”x19” color calendars are out selling the smaller 8.5”x14”. That is somewhat of a surprise. If you have any questions or want to order calendars give me a call. We are shipping in two weeks after receiving the order. May your boots be dry, your coffee fresh, and your gloves new. Kybree. Steve crudeoilcalendars
