You will be hearing of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not frightened, for those things must take place, but that is not yet the end. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and in various places there will be famines and earthquakes. But all these things are merely the beginning of birth pangs. Matthew 24:6-8 (NASB) Following the coming of false Christs to deceive the disciples was the first item Jesus characteristic of the last days. Then would come great international conflict, involving wars and rumors of wars with accompanying famines, pestilences, earthquakes, and fearful sights and great signs from heaven. “The beginning of birth pangs” these troubles and woes will precede the end marking the transition from the church age to the age to come. The severe birth pains, followed by delivery and fulfillment, are also a pledge of the end and the joy at time of “delivery.” Let us never forget the joy of a new born baby, but it first must come with travail. As we look around the world today we see nation against nation, tribe against tribe, family against family, and neighbor against neighbor. There seems to be no peace in the world. Our lives are filled with threats of terror from within and without. We are witnessing violent storms, earthquakes, and floods throughout the world. Never have we known of so many happening at any one time. We are being warned that these activities are leading to the end of the age. Time is short we need to live our lives as this may be the last day. Christ is coming back for His church in such a time as this.
