Youre not allowed to labor long in the hospital. Then, we have to give you a drug to speed up labor. Then, you want your epidural now? And then, you have to have cesarean section because your baby is in distress. The answer? Stay home in labor until you cant stand it any more. A first-time mother lived an hour away from the hospital. Once labor started, she went to the home of a friend who lived within a few minutes of that hospital. Her babys father, her mother, and her friend were there to give her drinks and back rubs and walk with her. She labored there until the labor got strong and stayed strong. Then she went to the hospital, so far along in labor that none of the interferences could be used. Her baby was born an hour after she got to the hospital. Thats a great way to birth if you choose to use a hospital. Hiring a labor doula is a good substitute for family and friends to support you in labor.
