ZAKAAT: AL-QURAAN: ‘’Give the news of bitter very torment to those who save their property and money, and do not give their Zakaat to the poor amongst Muslims” (9:34) HADITH SHARIEF: “Protect your property against harm by paying Zakaat.” 1) When Zakaat (paying alms) was made compulsory a farz in islam? -During the holy month of Ramazan in 2nd hijri 2) Who has to pay Zakaat? -Whose property has reached the amount of nisaab. 3) What is Nisaab in Islam? -Nisaab means border line between richness and poverty prescribed by Islam. 4) For what property or amount one falls under the category of Zakaat? - 93 grams of gold Or 651 gram of silver or amount equivalent to it i.e., Rs. 29,712 or commercial property. If gold or silver or commercial property remains in ones possession for one complete Islamic year from the day it was weighed or the value reached the amount of nisaab. (Calculated on silver rates as on 1st Ramazan) 5) Name the type of property for which Zakaat has to be paid. -There are four a different type of property for which Zakaat has to be paid: a) Gold, silver or paper money. b) Commercial property or commodity which is bought and kept for trade purpose. c) Ushr:- things coming out from all kinds of land that are watered by rain, river or brooks. d) Domestic Animals(goat, cow/ox, camel) 6) What is farz and what is wajib in Zakaat? Farz- To make an intention. An intention is made with heart. While giving the Zakaat to poor one should intend “I shall give the Zakaat for allah’s sake.” Wajib- Giving Zakaat as soon as possible after one becomes sahib e nisaab is wajib. 7) What is the Zakaat amount? One fortieth of the remained (gold, silver cash, commercial goods) Example:- For Rs 100 Zakaat is RS 2.5 For Rs 1000 Zakaat is RS 25 For Rs 10000 Zakaat is RS 250 For Rs 30000 Zakaat is RS 750 For Rs 40000 Zakaat is RS 1000 For Rs 100000 Zakaat is RS 2500 For Rs 1000000 Zakaat is Rs 25000 Saiyed Ilyas Bapu Nadiad
