Zetta is officially over the car phobia. I am not really sure what - TopicsExpress

Zetta is officially over the car phobia. I am not really sure what did it in the end but my suspicion is: 1. Long UK car journeys. Everything in Guernsey was basically only 10 minutes or so. I think, therefore, through chance, letting her out after ten minutes of whimpering (when we arrived at the beach, say) was reinforcing the behaviour that a whimper means she gets to go out of the car (it was telling, for example, that in our first longer UK car journeys she whimpered for roughly about 10-15 minutes before calming down). 2. Susan Garrets crate training DVD. Zetta now jumps into the boot so fast she practically hits her head as it opens! I now need to train her to only do it when its safe! It is so cute the way she now sits really deep in the boot thanks to the deep treat delivery as advocated by Susan. 3. Possibly sharing the car with a dog not afraid (Alisons parents), but this seems less likely considering that I am aware that with things like separation anxiety the presence of a calm dog does not necessarily or particularly help. Anyway, very happy!
