a conservative friend just told me one thing i didnt realize about myself. i am among the first generation to be indoctrinated (his word) by bert and ernie. indoctrinated? really? my reply: oh you mean im in the first generation to learn conversational spanish from loveable characters and child-friendly actors and cartoons? the first generation to learn that neighborhoods can be diverse and fun and safe at the same time? the first generation to explore expanded gender roles (mom goes to work) in a child-friendly way? the first generation to watch artists like buffy st. marie and stevie wonder on child-oriented programming? i could go on and on and on...
