caught this 8-8 on a very windy Kennet yesterday afternoon fishing downstream and very close in to my near bank on a big gob-stopper sized sausage sizzle lump of paste over caviar pellet. I was interested to see the tail fin disfiguration so immediately sent a text photo to Westy who called me back straight away Fin rot Mike and its getting more common, it can be treated with Friars Balsam or Clinic or other such good antiseptics to kill the bacteria, I remember catching a very big Barbel with the same problem some years ago and treated the fish which I recaptured a year or so later and the fin had actually regrown and repaired itself. I am no biological expert and would like to hear from others who have experienced a similar thing..............so are there any experts out there can explain more? have you had a similar experience? surely we as anglers should all carry antiseptic to treat same? what products would you recommend? perhaps we at Lone Angler should offer some for sale on our web site........this 8-8 fought like a demon but I wouldnt like to see her tail get any worse!
