did not know Lyle Lovett was Lutheran. HT John Barach, who quoted from an interview at theinterrobang/lyle-lovett-completes-a-chapter-in-his-life-with-release-me: The hymn– when I grew up I went to Lutheran school– we sang everyday and it’s really where I started singing. And it’s just one of my favorite hymns. We were recording that day– it was a Sunday and we were recording at the Blue Rock studios down in Wimberly, Texas, out in the Texas hill country. And it was so quiet and peaceful and Matt Rollings, our piano player was the first person to get there. I actually had my old hymnal with me and I took it out and I asked him to play through it and so we just decided to roll tape.
