dieciseis de septiembre ... 16th September. We salute Mexico for independence from European rule on this day. We who live anywhere in Greater Texas, from sea to shining sea, from Brownsville to San Diego, also celebrate this day when the rule of Spain retreated from our lands forever and the Hapsburg family of Europe no longer dominated us. It was another hundred years almost before Croatia, Herzogovana, Czech, Slovakia, and Galicia were free from them so indeed it is our day to celebrate with great joy along side Mexico. Viva Mexico!!! Viva Texas!!! God bless Mexico, God bless Texas. Živio sloboda!!! And ... tonight and tomorrow we pray for our brothers and sisters slightly to the south of us as their Independence Day celebrations are canceled due to Hurricane Ingrid ... and we pray for all of Mexico as a nation which has been hit by two fairly major storms in just a few days.
