for those of you who are following what we are up to Patrick and myself heres an in site to where we are heading and the significant it its to us PRETTY COOL Olympic, World and European Champions arrive in Australia STA, Monday, 11 August 2014 Never before has Australia witnessed so many world class international athletes coming to Australia to compete on our home soil. The Australian open scheduled for 16-17 August at Sydneys sports stadium at Homebush bay, which was the same venue where Lauren Burns secured her gold Olympic medal and where Daniel Trenton secured his silver Olympic medal, will now host a vast number of elite world class athletes aiming to secure world ranking points in their quest to compete at the RIO 2016 Olympic games. We have been overwhelmed with the worlds best Taekwondo athletes visiting us for the first time. John Kotsifas, President of STA stated, “the 2014 Australian open promises to be a landmark and historic event in Australia’s Taekwondo history. Never before have we witnessed so many Olympic and World champions competing against our Australian athletes in Australia. We have been overwhelmed by the international support for our event which will provide our Junior and senior athletes with the highest level of international competition. Australia led the way to push for five G2 continental ranking events and we secured this after much negotiation with the WTF and our other continental union friends. In addition, we have secured the Oceania championships in Sydney at the same time which is a G4 world ranked event”. Never before have our Australian athletes had the opportunity to secure G4 and G2 world ranking points by competing in back to back events. STA’s president stated, “ We were the first country in the world to embrace the WTF Global membership system and we were the first country in the world to provide global athlete licences to all of our members as part of their membership of STA. We are also the first country to utilize the WTF on line registration system for an Open WTF sanctioned event and we have secured the services of MA Reg on line to oversee our events management systems as they have a proven record of managing WTF Grand Prix events and large world class events such as the USA and Dutch open events. We will learn much about hosting a large international event next week and this will stand us in good stead to maybe host a World WTF championship in Australia in a few years to come. For the record, Australia has only hosted two international events being the 1986 (NT) and 1996 Asian championships (Melb). STA wants to wish all of our Australian athletes the very best of luck next week and we look forward to the entire Australian Taekwondo community embracing and supporting these two events next week.”
