here is a copy of my graduation speech Thank You Josh, Dean of ITT Tech, faculty, classmates, friends and family. I was asked to speak tonight about why I chose ITT Tech for my advanced education. Like Bill Gates, I dropped out of Harvard to pursue a career in the IT field. Actually, I thought I wanted to pursue a degree in History at a major university and become a museum curator. I spent nearly a year following this desire. The further I got into this the more I realized that this was not what I was meant to do in life. I came to the realization that I preferred to perform technical functions My passion for computer science led me to studying Computer Networking Systems. With the guidance of my parents and my counselor I was encouraged to explore the possibilities of a technical school. It made sense to me that there are so many functions that are “hands on”. After seeing what ITT had to offer, I felt confident that this was the right place for me. I toured the facility and met with the staff and knew that I was going to receive type of training that would lead me to a life long career. My expectation proves to be correct. My classes were exactly what I had hoped for. My teachers were available to me at convenient times to help me with any challenges I encountered. The difference between the instructors at ITT and those at a University is that they are experienced at the subject matter as opposed to teaching. ITT Instructors come from the industry. They mentored me and shared their experiences. As I progressed I felt as though I already worked in the real world. I noticed that a substantial number of my classmates were work and military experienced. This told me that they recognized the potential of such an education. They knew what skills were necessary to achieve job security. I was lucky to be able to draw upon their life lessons. The plan worked. Not only did I get an education here, but ITT also helped place me in a job. I was referred to Amcom Office Systems, a subsidiary of Xerox. A fellow classmate and I both were hired prior to completing graduation. We are already on our way to success. I feel confident that I have skills that will be valuable in almost any industry. I can find comfort in knowing that my career path will be essential for the long term. To my fellow classmates I have words of wisdom that I hope will help you along the way. There will always be work for those who use their hands. The trades are important and always will be. Someone must perform the work. Finally in the words of Dr. Seuss, “Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.” Thank you and good luck as we close one chapter and open another.
