https://youtube/watch?v=Eh2wtVfw1gk Alright, now for the real film for today. And not only that, but this is the last film ever in our 25th anniversary tribute to the 1989 WDC logo. Thats right, were now officially down to the last film ever to use the logo. Now, some of you are probably thinking, I thought those were all the films to use it. Well, its a little bit of yes and no here. Its yes, because the 1989 WDC logo had finally been discounted from VHS tapes in 1992, while making its final appearance on laserdisc in 1993. But, despite of all that, it did actually one other film, despite the fact that the WDC series were retired in 1994, and were replaced by the WD Masterpiece Collection the same year. In 1996, one of the WDMC titles released on February 28th, 1996 had early printings of this film use the 1989 WDC logo in the opening contents of the tape. Now, of course, everyone knows that was a video editing error, and is the most well known editing mistake that hardcore VHS collectors know all over. So, even though it was unintended to use the logo, it still appeared on the VHS tape, and for that reason, thats why we had this film for today previously, and the fact that it was Thanksgiving, and this is an ideal film to have for a day like this. So, the last film ever to be featured in our 25th anniversary tribute to the 1989 WDC logo is none other than Pocahontas. This is one of my favorite films that seems to get an undeserved bad rap. Just because something is based off of something we already know, that doesnt necessarily mean its a bad film. In this films case, it makes it unique. Disney normally bases their films off fairy tales and folklore, so you have to give them credit, that this was something new and different from them. Just like with yesterdays films, the colors in this film are perfect. The art director on this film knew what he was doing here. Of course, they still do have Alan Menken songs in this film, and theyre still excellent songs in here too. You can never really go wrong with him, no matter what film he works on. And as a good friend of mine Matthew Cantrell had brought up in recent posts of the film, it does have some funny comic relief with the animals. The scenes with Meeko and Percy are such a hoot to watch, that they really steal the show, with their funny business. Theyre a few flaws that I will grant people of though. Governor Ratcliffe is such a one dimensional villain, as hes so boring, and so obvious. Good god, whenever I think of the boring stereotypical greedy villain, hes the one I usually think of. He has no motivation, but greed, which isnt strong enough, and that really bothers me here. Thankfully, Frollo was created in the next film after this, and he was a total improvement from here, which is the only advantage that film has over this. At times, the film can be preachy, and it can show it for some parts, but aside from, the film remains one of my favorites, regardless on what other people think. Yes, theyre maybe problems in here, but Im not going to be swayed by the crowd in this case. Its a favorite of mine, and I love it just the same. And with that, our tribute to the 1989 WDC logo is finally over today. Heres the 25th anniversary of the logo, and heres to many more in the future. So, thats the end of our tribute week, but tomorrows Friday though, so we still have to have one more film to close the week out though. Ill fill you in on whatever I think of for tomorrow, but for now, enjoy!
