i feel like the only person that thinks that the cardinals have the red sox right where they want them. this is just as much of a must-win for the sox, against the best pitcher this postseason, with the pressure of winning a series at home for the first time since 1918. the cards get to add a bat for free (craig) and holliday gets to patrol a smaller left field. the left side of the infield cant stay anemic forever (as much as i despise kozma and freese). one hit out of each is honestly enough to do more than drew (1-for-the-playoffs) and boegarts (fragile inexperience). everyone not named ortiz is hitting .150 for boston, and even he cant hit .700 for the series. you can either tempt fate that he will cool down or you walk him. in either case, i think papis role in determining this series has peaked. someone else will have to step up to get them win number four. not sure they have that guy, where the cards do. i think beltran has some fight left in him; this could be his last good chance. hes carried them through each round so far, and his mark hasnt been made on this series yet. i look for him to remind big papi who mr. modern october really is. wacha and kelly have already beat this lineup. lackey will fall back to earth tonight, and then who do they have behind him: buchholz? doubront? the cardinals are not scared that they have to recreate the drama of 2011s game 6 and 7 on the road. the advantage goes to all these young power arms, as long as matheny can stay out of his own way. i have the cardinals as my statistical favorite to still win this on the road, a la the 1979 pirates. if they lose game 6 or 7 it is because they gave it away. i typically advocate for teams to ugly it up at the end of any long series (in any sport). but im not quite sure how this one could get uglier. the familiarity that comes with five consecutive games against one team favors st. louis. just dont let it come down to a ninth inning rally against uehara; that man is unflappable. lets go, st. louis. stop gloating your perennial good fortune by passive aggressively pouting like spoiled babies. no more this is getting hard. its not going the way we want. we should just let them win. well be back next year, anyway.
