: in relation to the ongoing (on here) conversation about Arts Council funding in Yorkshire, a whole quarter of which is devoted to Opera North (representing about £6 per head over the whole of Yorkshire), perhaps the question is what value do Opera North provide beyond their immediate audience (and beyond those who can afford tickets), for example in places like Rotherham (where I was born), which only gets 78p of Arts Council money per head? Could it be less elitist and start working with people from deprived areas and in places which are otherwise arts deserts?
