listening to a white man on his cell phone (i assumed hes south - TopicsExpress

listening to a white man on his cell phone (i assumed hes south african, but i dont know): sell it to the african. firstly, african is so non-specific. which african are you talking about? because the africans of egypt are not the same as the africans of eritrea who are not the same as the africans of nigeria who are not the same as the africans of sudan who are not the same as the africans of liberia who are not the same as the africans of south africa. and i could continue.... secondly, i didnt know african was synonymous to black. but if it is, im not mad. but to that white south african woman (whos ethnically polish, scottish and whatever other western european ethnicity she named when she stopped being a smart ass) from my undergraduate dance class, dont you ever then try to claim an identity that you know damn well is not who you are to build some misguided camaraderie with me and the fellow black students in our class. moral of the story: if you are not willing to deal with the social repercussions of identifying with a specific social identity, dont you ever try to in your misguided attempt to build a relationship with anyone. you dont really want to deal with the constant appropriation of any cultural expression you produce. you dont really want to deal with being followed by the cops for no real reason other than your black body is out of place in that white neighborhood. you dont really want to deal with the exceptionalism that is used to praise certain members of your community, but really is just a technique of divisiveness. at the end of the day you look like a fool & i have no respect for you.
