my apologies to everyone that has tried to get a hold of me over the past week or so, I will try to get back to you as soon as I possibly can! Update: Day 13 Post Knee replacement (13.5 weeks post hip replacement) wow, this surgery has REALLY kicked my butt, way worse than i would ever have imagined! on a scale of 1 - 10 hip replacement was 3 - 4 and maybe a 5 on really bad days.. knee replacement and easy 15! The pain just NEVER goes away... it is there 24/7 in some form... Narcotics help.. but they also just mess with my head and make me dopey and sleepy, cant really focus on anything for more than a few minutes.. then drop off in a snooze.. it drives me crazy!! sleep... ha.. what is that? you sleep for a few minutes, then have to shift position because of the knee pain. a few days ago I came down with an allergic reaction to my blood transfusion!! I had 600 ml of my own blood that was lost during surgery , transfused back into my body. Apparently, sometimes the body can see this as an intruder and gives an allergic reaction to it.... very very itchy and red bumps all over! Hot showers make it oh so much worse!!! hoping that this will end soon!! however, having said all of that.. my rehab is going really well! my surgical team and I opted for me to return home rather than rehab. it is MUCH more comfortable being at home! Rehab people come to the house several times a week. Yesterday my rehab girl told me that I am a good 2 weeks AHEAD in my recovery!! I have about 85 degree flexion easily and 87 degree at a real push.. so we expect 90 degree by the end of this week! I am already walking with just one crutch and can walk about 1000 meters at a time, I usually get out for about 3 - 4 walks each day. My quad muscles have woken up, however due to the extent of the surgery, they are a bit weaker than they normally would be. but on the upside, they have begun to work already and I am able to actually pick my leg up and move it with the muscles! all in all , it is going VERY well , i will try my best to keep it all going forward at a good rate of recovery! The swelling is unreal and the bruising is quite colorful! LOL
