notes taken at the last meeting: official launch of the emerald red tent should not occur until we actually have a red tent. the red tent should stay secular to be able to reach women of all cultures and belief systems what we want to provide the community with through the red tent: celebration of womanhood to install empowerment and respect in women menopause support support for mothers of pubescent girls support for pubescent girls a rejuvinating space for women to take a break from the pressures of modern-day womanhood maiden ceremonies? who will be welcome at regular red tent meetings: women of all ages girls who are coming-of-age babies in arms potentially children- women that do not have access to a childminder (e.g. single mothers, mothers whose partner works away) should not be left out because of this. ideally we would also occupy a space right next to the red tent that would be designated for children of women in the red tent, so they could access their mother if needed, whilst still maintaining a sacred space. we would leave it up to each woman attending to decide whether it was appropriate for their child to be there. notes about what a red tent meeting will hold: tea! snacks (traditionally this is sweet cakes) pamphlets and other public health literature info/education board at the front of the tent, for curious passers-by to inspect guest speakers on occaision usually casual gatherings, the content will be defined by a natural flow of events that come from the attendees puberty/coming-of-age talks for boys and girls? secular guidance cards? e.g. angel cards etc a sacred space a calm and quiet space notes about acquiring a red tent: maybe a marquee? an old parachute? curtains sarongs sheets cushions short coffee table ask locally for donations of unwanted sheets etc potentially dye/tiedye any miscoloured donations cushion making session? notes about fundraising: monthly lions markets -$5 DIY tiedye stall using left over dye -cake stalls -hairbraiding & wraps (Emma) -donations -goddess wands (Cherie) -any other skill or goods that may be donated to sell -need to look into the legalities of holding raffles. potential locations of the red tent: the monthly lions markets multicultural festival gemfest other local festivals and events lions park- (large grassy area with a few trees, and a playground to occupy children that may need to be nearby)
