Reporting to the VP, International Programs, the Director of Business Development provides overall direction and guidance for the execution of the institutional business development strategies that support Plan USA’s strategic mission and programming. S/he collaborates closely with internal stakeholders to align the organization’s business development strategies with its strategic priorities related to program growth and impact. S/he takes an active role liaising with other organizational members of the Plan International Federation to identify opportunities for partnership, program growth and donor relationship cultivation. Supported by a dynamic team, the Business Development Director oversees prospecting, capture, bid preparation and proposal development across Plan USA’s institutional donor portfolio including USG, foundations and multi-lateral accounts. The BD Director provides overall direction and guidance for the continuous improvement of new business systems, specifically to support the prioritization, cultivation and stewardship of institutional donor relationships. S/he works closely with Plan International’s technical and programmatic staff to ensure high quality winning project designs that use cutting edge approaches to achieve impact and results. S/he ensures that Plan International USA’s new business development efforts are efficient, effective and of the highest possible quality. QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree in relevant field such as business management, economics, international development or public health. 10+ years of relevant professional experience in new business development, including management of new business development systems and processes. 5+ years of experience managing US government solicitations and funding mechanisms including prospecting and capture of USAID agreements, grants and contracts. Candidates with required years of experience in other markets or a combination of markets, may be considered provided they can demonstrate satisfactory expertise with USG/USAID market in combination with other complementary aspects of their background/ experience. Familiarity required and experience preferred with multi-lateral and/or foundation prospecting and capture (e.g. World Bank, Global Fund, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation). Proven team leader with strong organizational skills; the capacity to manage complex and shifting priorities and timelines; team player with proven ability to work effectively in a highly multi-cultural team setting. At least 5 years overseas experience strongly preferred. A passion for the mission and values of Plan International. Strong verbal communication and presentation skills. Proficiency in Spanish and/or French preferred; Ability to travel up to 40% annually. Must be able to work for a US Employer. The Program Manager will also be responsible for promoting technical quality in the implementation of health projects and building the technical capacity of staff in Plan’s field offices. S/he will participate in related research and documentation efforts and represent Plan at sector meetings and events. H/she may also contribute to the technical design of project proposals to institutional, foundation, and corporate donors. QUALIFICATIONS: MPH or MA equivalent experience in public health, social science, or related field. Five to seven years professional experience in development organizations working on health related projects. Proven experience in the health related field with preference for strong practical experience in a developing country (emergency or development). Experience in the management or backstopping of multi-year grant funded projects. Experience and/or demonstrable knowledge of key health best-practices and approaches. Excellent representation, planning, and management skills. Ability and willingness to travel at least 25% of the time to designated countries, including in an emergency setting.
