ok Michael Michael Cowett Bradley Maravalli on the Castillo signing. First, its a good move. $10M a year isnt a huge number. Its essentially him being an average ML player. If you want to be a hyper nerd, and go with the thinking 1 WAR is worth $5, than he needs to be a 2 WAR player to be worth his contract. For comparison, Marlon Byrd, Khris Davis and Casey McGee this year were worth around 2 WAR. So, if he plays better than Marlon Bryd, hes worth it. The Red Sox have a clear log jam in the OF, but unfortunately for them its a log jam of mediocre players. Heres my prediction for 2015 Castillo- Everyday CF Cespedes- Everyday RF Craig- Everyday LF Bench: Nava (this kills me. I love him) JBJ Betts (I put him here because he can play the OF or IF, and I think hell end up on the bench) Having Nava and Betts on the bench gives you flexibility because Nava can play 1B in a pitch and Betts can play IF....you know, like he is supposed to Victorino is traded I hope I dont know if acquiring Castillo makes it more or less likely that we get Stanton. I dont think the Marlins want Cespedes, but he could be a piece sent back with Betts+ to clear some of the logjam. Itll be interesting (oh, and if JBJ is in AAA and Victorino is on the bench Im OK with it.)
