rewatching Season 17, Episode 1 of Southpark. The Shitter - TopicsExpress

rewatching Season 17, Episode 1 of Southpark. The Shitter episode, where Cartman and Alec Baldwin both shove shitter interfaces directly into their brains so that all their thoughts go directly to the internet. It sums up my feelings about Facebook, twitter, and social media in general, and peoples duplicitous attitudes towards privacy and social media. George Orwell could never have imagined people being so vain and shallow to make an enterprise like Facebook a success. I know. I am posting this on Facebook, so I am bonding with my fellow humans in this somewhat inane behaviour. Maybe Princeton was right. It is hard to look into the hazy crystal ball of the future, and decide if social media is a one way trend, or if it is more of a cycle, the latter meaning we would have rises and declines in the popularity of social media. I tend to think that we have an aspect of newness about social media, and once the novelty wears off, Princeton may very well be proven correct, even if their models and reasoning were completely without merit, scientifically and statistically.
